Day Trip: Point Roadknight and Aireys Inlet

Split Point Shoot © Karl Zeller

On the 20th of March, around a dozen members set off for an outing to  Point Roadknight in Anglesea. Some of the "bird nerders" in the group met a little earlier, in search of elusive Southern Emu Wrens. These wrens remained elusive, but a flock of Gang-gang Cockatoos flying overhead and some tips from a local birder made up for that!

The weather was perfect, with lovely blue skies and stunning rock formations which were accessible due to the low tide. Some members tried their hand at long exposure photography with ND filters, whilst others concentrated on rock textures and some macro work. The bird nerds were thrilled to watch and photograph a pair of  Hooded Plovers (classed as vulnerable) go about their business on the edge of the sand. A Double-banded Plover and Pacific Gull also joined them.

The morning ended with lunch and a chat at the local bakery in Anglesea. Delicious pies, wraps, and coffees were the order of the day! Some members headed for home and others ventured on down to  Aireys Inlet for some more adventures. All in all, it was a lovely day.
