Colac is about a 1½ hr's drive from Williamstown. It's a bit of a hike, but we're making a day of it.

Massive thanks to Margaret for putting this together for us. Margaret and Graeme made a pilgrimage, a reconnaissance trip to Colac a few weeks ago to get us sorted with regard the itinerary.

10:30 Tarndie

Meet at 10.30 at the Tarndie historic sheep/wool farm, where we can wander around the gardens and old stone barn and cellar. Enjoy a devonshire tea here ($10) made by our host, Tom. If there are no guests booked in for accommodation, we will be able to have a look through the historic house. There is also the wool shop to browse through. This property has been in the same family for 7 generations.

To get to Tarndie, take the second left hand turn to Birregurra from the Princes Hwy. Turn at the first street to the right (signpost to Historic Woolfarm and Cemetery), go past the cemetery (on your left), take right hand fork in the road which will take you to the farm.

Allow 1½ hrs at this venue.

12pm Colac Lake & Botanic Gardens

Drive into Colac, turn right into Queen Street, turn right and follow road around to the Colac Lake near the boat ramp. There is a bird sanctuary close by. The Botanic Gardens are also here -  you can park along the street adjacent to the gardens. Have a wander around the gardens. You can bring your own lunch and have a picnic in the garden or drive back to the main street where there are several cafes to choose from. Note that most shops/bakeries close at 1.00pm, but cafes will be open.

Allow 2 hours

2pm Beeac

Drive back to the main road, turn left drive out of Colac, and turn left onto the C146 road and head to Beeac. Have a wander around the main street some historic buildings, a lolly shop and a ghost sign or two.

2:30 Red Rock Lookouts

Leaving Beeac, turn left into Corangamite Lake Road, (C147) drive past the Lake Beeac. This lake can have some great reflections although parking is pretty well non-existent. Take left fork in the road, and turn right into Corangamite Lake Road, and then left into Red Rock Reserve road. Drive to the Red Rock lookouts (there are several) with toilets at first lookout.

Departure

When Leaving, those who will not be staying on for dinner, can either drive back the way we came - that is through Beeac and can get back to the highway by continuing on Route C146, turning left into Ryans Road, which changes name to McKays Road, turn right into Bourkes Road, which will bring you back to the Princes Hwy, turn left to Melbourne, or can go back via Colac.

5pm Interclub Dinner

Those who are staying on, turn right on to Corangamite Lake Road and left on the highway back into Colac. The venue for dinner is the Union Club Hotel, cnr of Gellibrand Street. The menu with prices is available to look at on their website under the section "Bistro". We would need to back at the hotel about 5.00pm.

PLEASE LET US KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE OUTING, IF YOU WOULD LIKE :

  1. TO HAVE A DEVONSHIRE TEA AT TARNDIE,
  2. IF YOU WANT TO STAY ON FOR DINNER AT THE HOTEL AND INTERCLUB WITH COLAC/CORIO.

Note: This is subject to change and participants can feel free to stay longer at any venue, or leave earlier and move on if they wish.
