Join us as we complete the journey started in 2023 by visiting sites around the bay from Seaholme to Altona.

Bring along your camera gear including tripod to capture our backyard. We will start this day off with a look at the camera basics we discussed at our first meeting, before we make our way around the bay ending at Altona Pier.

Melbourne Zoo

It has been a while since we've visited the Zoo as a club. Come along and hang out with the animals and people of Melbourne Zoo.

A visit to the zoo offers members the opportunity to try out different camera techniques including using your depth of field to go beyond the enclosure barriers. Macro on the plants, their flowers, and butterflies in the humid butterfly house. Using a telephoto lens to find the animals hiding in their zoo homes.

Landscapes and Equestrian by Neil Anderson

As a refresher before our landscape competition (entries due August 13, 2024), Neil will reinforce the principles of good landscape photography.

Following this Neil will present his tips and methodologies when it comes to photography equestrian events in support of our day-trip to the Melbourne 3 Day International Event at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre (on June 10 long weekend).

VAPS Event

VAPS Convention

VAPS holds an annual Convention every year where members of different clubs come together to learn more about photography. There are presentations by guest speakers, workshops, and photographic excursions to participate in and of course interaction with members from other clubs. It is a great forum for exchanging ideas about the activities of other clubs.

Flash Theory and Practical - Not Studio Flash

We're going to be working with standard flash units. On and off the camera. We'll look at the pros and cons of the many different ways to use your flash in photography for portraiture work and for lighting macro photos.

We will also following this up with a practical day on the weekend to practise using our flash outdoors.

Negative Space in Photography

James will join us via Zoom and take us through the concept of Negative space in photography can how it can be used to create an emotional response to your images or to focus on a singular subject.

We'll follow this up with a few members sharing their work in "5 minutes of fame" - If you've created a body of work you'd like to share with the club during the meeting end an email to webmaster@williamstowncameraclub.com.au so we can schedule you in.

We're venturing down to Mornington Peninsular, bring along your camera gear including your tripod and ND or graduated filters if you have them.

Image Evaluation

Submit your photos for our Image Evaluation meeting. In groups we will take a look at each others' images and provide constructive critique of the works.

The intention of the evening is to learn to give and receive critique using the judging guidelines of the APJA, the group which trains the judges we have judge our competitions.

A visit to the beautiful Cranbourne Gardens. This location provides member with a no shortage of opportunity to practice their photography skills. Its vast area allows for landscape photos to be taken and it's array of plants, flowers and the creatures who call them home are perfect macro enthusiasts.
