As a refresher before our landscape competition (entries due August 13, 2024), Neil will reinforce the principles of good landscape photography.

Following this Neil will present his tips and methodologies when it comes to photography equestrian events in support of our day-trip to the Melbourne 3 Day International Event at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre (on June 10 long weekend).

VAPS holds an annual Convention every year where members of different clubs come together to learn more about photography. There are presentations by guest speakers, workshops, and photographic excursions to participate in and of course interaction with members from other clubs. It is a great forum for exchanging ideas about the activities of other clubs.

We're going to be working with standard flash units. On and off the camera. We'll look at the pros and cons of the many different ways to use your flash in photography for portraiture work and for lighting macro photos.

We will also following this up with a practical day on the weekend to practise using our flash outdoors.

Entries due for competition 4: "Red" and Open

James will join us via Zoom and take us through the concept of Negative space in photography can how it can be used to create an emotional response to your images or to focus on a singular subject.

We'll follow this up with a few members sharing their work in "5 minutes of fame" - If you've created a body of work you'd like to share with the club during the meeting end an email to webmaster@williamstowncameraclub.com.au so we can schedule you in.

We're venturing down to Mornington Peninsular, bring along your camera gear including your tripod and ND or graduated filters if you have them.

We're making this a bit of a later start for those who might want to stick around for a spot of astrophotography, weather permitting.

As usual we will quickly dispense with the business of our Annual General Meeting and get into the judging of our 4th competition of the year: Red and Open.

A team of members have been working behind the scenes on creating a series of workshops for the club, this meeting will be a snapshot of the full course they have prepared and will deliver to our members a foundation for making awesome portraits.

Richard Tatti joins us to present the art of Astrophotography. Long-time members will remember Richard and newer members are in for a treat as Richard explains his method for finding locations and photographing the night sky.

Entries due for competition 6: Still Life and Open

Submit your photos for our Image Evaluation meeting. In groups we will take a look at each others' images and provide constructive critique of the works.

The intention of the evening is to learn to give and receive critique using the judging guidelines of the APJA, the group which trains the judges we have judge our competitions.

A visit to the beautiful Cranbourne Gardens. This location provides member with a no shortage of opportunity to practice their photography skills. Its vast area allows for landscape photos to be taken and it's array of plants, flowers and the creatures who call them home are perfect macro enthusiasts.
